Description of Mixed Metal Oxide Titanium Rod Anode
Mixed Metal Oxide Anodes (MMO Anodes), also called dimensionally stable anodes, are a type of impressed current protection anode that consists of rare earth oxide coated onto a titanium substrate.
There is no precise industry definition for “mixed metal oxide.” Each supplier has a unique recipe for their mixed metal oxide coating. Generally, the mixed metals Ruthenium Oxide (RuO2) and Iridium Oxide (IrO2) are mainly used for cathodic protection applications.
MMO coating has a low consumption rate, making the metal dimensions remain constant during the working life of the anode, which provides a consistently low resistance anode. It is usually used in environments such as seawater, brackish water, freshwater, carbon backfill, and concrete.
Advantages
- Strong resistance in conditions impacted by both oxygen and chlorine
- Various product compositions available depending on the application
- Excellent resistance in acidic media
- Durability
