Cerium hexaboride (CeB6) is a high performance refractory ceramic material and cathode material. It is an inorganic compound that has a melting point of 2552℃.

Like a coating of the cathode, CeB6 has a lower evaporation rate comparing to LaB6 in the atmosphere under 1850K. It means that CeB6 can keep an optimum tip shape longer. The CeB6 cathode has a 50% higher lifetime than LaB6 due to its higher carbon contamination resistance. The boride cathode has ten times the brightness of tungsten cathode and its lifetime is 10–15 times that of a tungsten cathode.
