Description of Sodium Chloride Crystal Substrates

Sodium Chloride (NaCl) crystal is water-soluble, and it is easily deliquescent. It cannot be chemically polished. NaCl single crystal substrates are commonly used as substrate materials for epitaxial thin film growth. NaCl is hygroscopic by nature and very sensitive to moisture. NaCl crystal substrates must be stored in a desiccator container to avoid hydration.
