Molybdenum Disc Description

Molybdenum Discs and molybdenum squares are engineered molybdenum products. Possessing a gray hue and an exceptionally high melting point, molybdenum is not found naturally as a free metal but exists in various oxidation states in minerals. Its propensity to readily form robust and stable carbides makes it a preferred choice for crafting steel alloys, high-strength alloys, and superalloys. Molybdenum compounds typically exhibit low solubility in water and find industrial applications in high-pressure and high-temperature settings, such as pigments and catalysts.

Molybdenum Discs and Molybdenum Squares provided by Stanford Advanced Materials (SAM) share a similar low coefficient of thermal expansion to silicon and boast high-performance machining properties. We provide options with both polished and lapped surfaces.

Molybdenum Disc Applications

Utilized as a critical electronic component in high-power and high-reliability semiconductors, molybdenum serves the crucial purpose of efficiently dissipating heat. Its application extends to serving as contact materials in silicon-controlled rectifiers, diodes, transistors, and thyristors (GTOs). Additionally, molybdenum finds essential use as heat sink bases in integrated circuits (ICs), large-scale integrated circuits (LSIs), and hybrid circuits, contributing to effective thermal management in electronic devices.

Molybdenum Disc Packaging

Our Molybdenum Discs and Molybdenum Squares are carefully handled to minimize damage during storage and transportation and to preserve the quality of our products in their original condition.

Molybdenum Disc FAQs

Q1: How are molybdenum discs packaged?

A1: Molybdenum discs are carefully packaged to ensure safe transportation and protection from contamination:

Foam packaging or vacuum-sealed bags to avoid exposure to moisture or air

Custom packaging can be arranged based on size, quantity, and shipping requirements

Q2: How should molybdenum discs be handled and stored?

A2: To ensure the longevity and quality of molybdenum discs:

Handle with care to avoid physical damage or contamination

Store in a dry, cool, and clean environment to prevent oxidation

Avoid sudden temperature changes to prevent thermal shock

Use gloves when handling to avoid oils, dust, or other contaminants from affecting the surface

Q3: Can molybdenum discs be used in high-temperature environments?

A3: Yes, molybdenum discs are highly suited for high-temperature applications. Their melting point of 2,623°C (4,753°F) makes them ideal for use in furnaces, reactors, aerospace, and other extreme-temperature environments.
