Ammonium Paratungstate (APT) Description
Ammonium paratungstate (APT) is a white crystalline salt with the chemical formula (NH4)10(H2W12O42)·4H2O. It is described as "the most important raw material for all other tungsten products." When ammonium para tungstate is heated to between 220 and 280 degrees Celsius, it loses part of its ammonium and water compounds, transforming into ammonium metatungstate. This new compound is a highly pure, water-soluble tungsten powder that is almost completely free of alkali and metallic impurities.
