Silicon Window (Si) Description
Silicon Window (Si) made from optical grade silicon has become a popular product for applications in the 1.2 - 7μm spectral range due to the lower cost and density. Silicon has a very low density (half that of germanium or zinc selenide), making it ideal for weight-sensitive applications, especially those in the 3-5μm range. Its density is 2.329 g/cm3 and its Knoop hardness is 1150. Therefore, it is harder than germanium and less prone to chipping.
