Molybdenum Disilicide Heating Elements Description

The U-shaped Molybdenum Disilicide Heating Elements are known for their longevity and reliability at a high temperatures. It was specially made for industrial and laboratory furnaces, which can withstand oxidation in the high-temperature working atmosphere. Customers can choose the different shapes of products according to their furnaces’ sizing.

MoSi2 devices have low resistivity and positive resistance-temperature characteristics. Compared to metal heating elements, it can be used under very high watt loads. Due to its high-temperature oxidation resistance, MoSi2 resistors remain constant at a constant temperature throughout their useful life. Even in series, new and old components can be used simultaneously in the same furnace.

FAQs

Q1: What is a Molybdenum Disilicide Heating Element?

A Molybdenum Disilicide Heating Element (MoSi₂) is a type of high-temperature heating element made from molybdenum disilicide, a compound of molybdenum and silicon. It is designed to operate at high temperatures and is used in industrial furnaces, kilns, and other applications requiring stable heating under extreme conditions.

Q2: What are the key properties of Molybdenum Disilicide Heating Elements?

  • High Temperature Resistance: Can withstand temperatures up to 1800°C (3272°F) or more.
  • Excellent Electrical Conductivity: Efficiently converts electrical energy into heat.
  • Oxidation Resistance: Forms a protective oxide layer when heated, which helps to prevent further oxidation.
  • Durability: Provides a long service life, even under high thermal stress and in oxidizing atmospheres.

Q3: What are the limitations of Molybdenum Disilicide Heating Elements?

  • Brittleness at Room Temperature: The elements are brittle at room temperature and can break if not handled carefully.
  • Corrosion in Certain Environments: Though oxidation-resistant, the material may still corrode under extreme reactive conditions (e.g., in hydrogen or carbon-rich environments).
  • Higher Cost: Due to the materials used (molybdenum and silicon), these elements can be more expensive compared to other heating elements like Kanthal or silicon carbide.
