Light Burned Magnesium Oxide Powder Description

Light Burned Magnesium Oxide Powder is obtained by firing magnesium hydroxide at low temperatures. It possesses a high surface area and has attracted interest as a promising candidate for boron adsorption materials.

In Agriculture, MgO is used as a magnesium supplement in compound fertilizers. In Feed additives, MgO is recognized as an essential nutrient for sheep or cows. Magnesium supplementation is needed to prevent hypomagnesemia (grass tetany-staggers) and milk fever (when calcium is also low) in beef (and dairy) cows from calving to peak milk production. In construction, MgO is used to produce industry floors, building boards, and cement. Magnesium Oxide Board or MgO Board is a technologically advanced building material that offers superior performance in every category when compared to traditional wood, gypsum and cement-based products. In Refractory, MgO is used as a refractory agent of crucibles.

Light Burned Magnesium Oxide Powder FAQs

Q1: What is Light Burned Magnesium Oxide (MgO) powder?

Light Burned Magnesium Oxide (MgO) powder, also known as caustic calcined magnesia, is a fine, reactive powder produced by calcining magnesite or magnesium hydroxide at relatively low temperatures (typically between 700°C and 1000°C). This process yields a highly reactive form of magnesium oxide.

Q2: How is Light Burned MgO powder produced?

Light Burned MgO powder is produced by calcining magnesite (MgCO₃) or magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)₂) at temperatures between 700°C and 1000°C. This process removes carbon dioxide or water, resulting in a reactive form of magnesium oxide.

Q3: What is the difference between Light Burned and Dead Burned MgO?

Light Burned MgO: Produced at lower temperatures (700°C-1000°C), resulting in a highly reactive powder. Used in applications requiring high reactivity.

Dead Burned MgO: Produced at higher temperatures (1500°C-2000°C), resulting in a dense, non-reactive material. Used in refractory and high-temperature applications.
