Maghemite Powder Description

Maghemite (Fe₂O₃, γ-Fe₂O₃) is a member of the family of iron oxides. It has the same structure as magnetite, that is, it is spinel ferrite and is also ferromagnetic. Maghemite can be considered as a Fe(II)-deficient magnetite with the formula where represents a vacancy, A indicates tetrahedral positioning and B octahedral.

Maghemite Powder Typical Applications 

Maghemite Powder is a ferromagnetic oxide powder. It has a spinel structure and is commonly used in magnetic tape, such as in the magnetic layer of audiotape, floppy disk, digital tape etc. The particles can be magnetized to represent data. MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) also uses iron(III, II) oxide compounds, suspended in an ink which can be read by special scanning hardware.
