Monel 405(Alloy 405, UNS N04405) Bar/Rod Description
Monel 405 (Alloy 405, UNS N04405) Bar/Rod is a nickel-copper alloy that has a content of cobalt and molybdenum. It has increased sulfur content than Monel 400, thus enhancing machinability into a free-cutting Monel alloy. Like Monel 400, alloy R405 is resistant to seawater and steam at high temperatures, as well as salt, and caustic solutions alkalis. It is also resistant to sulfuric acids and performs well in subzero temperatures.
There is no need for post-weld heat treatment for Monel R405. However, thorough cleaning after welding is critical for optimum corrosion resistance. Otherwise, there is the risk of contamination and embrittlement.

FAQs
What is the difference between Monel 400 and Monel 405 Bars?
Monel 405 is a free-machining version of Monel 400, with added sulfur to improve machinability while maintaining similar corrosion resistance and mechanical properties.
Is Monel 405 suitable for welding?
Yes, Monel 405 Bars can be welded, but due to the sulfur content, special care may be required to avoid cracking.
Can Monel 405 Bars withstand seawater corrosion?
Yes, Monel 405 Bars exhibit outstanding resistance to seawater corrosion, even in high-velocity and turbulent environments.
