Symbol: P
Atomic number: 15
Atomic weight: 30.973761998
Element category: polyatomic nonmetal, sometimes considered a metalloid
Phosphorus is never found as a free element on earth due to its high reactivity. It has three main allotropes: white phosphorus, red phosphorus, and black phosphorus.
Among these allotropes, white phosphorus is the most dangerous. It is poisonous and can spontaneously ignite when it comes in contact with air. Red phosphorus is formed by heating white phosphorus or by exposing white phosphorus to sunlight. Black phosphorus is the least reactive, and it is also formed by heating white phosphorus but requires high pressures or metal salts as catalysts.
The dominant application of phosphorus is manufacturing phosphoric acid which is used to produce fertilizers and a lot of other special products.
Stanford Advanced Materials (SAM) now can provide phosphorus products including:
5.5N or 6N, phosphorus pentoxide, electrical grade
Electrical Grade, used as the cleaning and etching agent in TFT-LCD and IC production
Purity 98.5% or 99%, can be used as stabilizers for plastics and in water treatment, bleaching & cleaning industry
