Lead Sulfide Powder Description

Lead sulfide is a dark blue-gray nearly black cubic crystal. It can be prepared by hydrogen sulfide being passed into an acidic solution of lead nitrate or by heating lead carbonate with sulfur. Lead sulfide is insoluble in acids, insoluble in water, and insoluble in bases. High purity lead sulfide can be used as a semiconductor. Stanford Advanced Materials (SAM) has over two decades of experience in the sale and manufacture of lead sulfide powder.

Lead Sulfide Powder Application

1. Electronics and Semiconductors: Lead Sulfide is a well-known semiconductor material. It is used in the production of infrared detectors and photodetectors due to its high sensitivity to certain wavelengths of light. It is also used in the manufacturing of various electronic components such as transistors and solar cells.

2. Paints and Pigments: Lead Sulfide Powder is used as a pigment in various paint formulations to achieve a range of colors, including dark grey, black, and blue-black. It provides good color stability and opacity to the paint.

3. Glass Manufacturing: Lead Sulfide is used in the manufacturing of specialty glasses, such as colored glass used in stained glass windows and decorative art glass. It imparts unique colors and opacity to the glass.

4. X-ray Shielding: Due to its high density and atomic number, Lead Sulfide is effective in shielding against X-rays. It is used in the construction of X-ray rooms, protective clothing, and shielding materials.

5. Lubricants and Greases: Lead Sulfide can be used as an extreme pressure lubricant additive to improve the lubrication properties of oils and greases in various industries, including automotive and manufacturing.

6. Batteries: Lead Sulfide is used in lead-acid batteries as part of the negative electrode (anode). It helps in the conversion of lead dioxide to lead sulfate during the discharge cycle of the battery.

7. Heavy Metal Ion Detection: Lead Sulfide nanoparticles are widely used in chemical sensors for the detection of heavy metal ions, including lead ions, due to their strong interaction with heavy metals.
